Sastry named to lead Grant Thornton’s Global Public Sector practice

CHICAGO/ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 18, 2012 — Grant Thornton LLP named Srikant Sastry, 48, as the firm’s new Global Public Sector managing principal, effective Aug. 1. Grant Thornton’s Global Public Sector (GPS) practice is a global management consulting business with the mission of providing responsive and innovative financial, performance management and systems solutions to governments and international organizations. Sastry is assuming the role from Hank Steininger, who is retiring from the firm after 18 years of distinguished service.

“I am confident that Srikant is the right person to build on the significant foundation and legacy that has been developed under the leadership of Hank Steininger,” said Lou Grabowsky, Grant Thornton’s chief operating officer. “Srikant’s demonstrated leadership, including the expansion of our GPS Cost and Performance Management group, is sure to take the practice and our firm to new heights.”

Currently, Sastry leads Grant Thornton’s GPS Advisory Service Line and was recently appointed Chair of Grant Thornton International’s Public Sector Strategy Group, which focuses on expanding the firm’s global footprint in public sector markets.

Sastry has served the public sector for 25 years, during which he led activity-based cost management, budget and performance improvement projects for several public sector entities, including the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. Department of Interior, U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Postal Service, U.S. Department of Treasury and International Monetary Fund.

Prior to Grant Thornton, he served in leadership roles for public sector cost and performance management practices at IBM Business Consulting Services and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. He began his career working in budget formulation and cost management capacities for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Management and Budget, and the Internal Revenue Service.

Sastry also serves as chairman of the board of directors for the Consortium of Advanced Management-International (CAM-I), a leading not-for-profit collaborative in the field of cost, process and performance management.

Sastry holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Massachusetts, a master’s degree in public affairs from Indiana University, and a juris doctor from the George Washington University Law School. He is a Certified Government Financial Manager.
